Description
The Darien Park District is currently seeking highly qualified applicants for the position of Program Specialist – Early Childhood. This position is responsible for planning, budgeting, organizing, publicizing, staffing, scheduling, and safety of assigned programs. Programs include but are not limited to: Mom and tot classes, birthday parties, one day parties, and summer camp.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Plan, organize, direct and evaluate assigned recreation programs to meet the needs of the community. Hire, schedule, supervise & train staff and instructors for assigned programs – Instruct various classes based on the needs of the community. Develop new, or expand existing programs or services, either individually or as requested by the Superintendent of Recreation. Plan, prepare and administer program budgets. Prepare program financial recaps after each season, and make budget adjustments as necessary. Promote programs within the community through various media; including press releases, brochure, flyers, cable bulletins, and posters and photos. Maintain district events and program information in various newspapers and publications. Respond to internal and external phone calls, e-mails, comments and suggestions in a timely manner. Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the District’s safety program. Available for flexible work schedule, may include some evenings and weekends.

Education and Requirements
High school degree or equivalent. Candidate must be dependable, highly organized and detail oriented. Must be in good physical condition, with sufficient strength to perform regular heavy lifting of 40-50 pounds on a daily basis. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Must have a valid Illinois Driver’s License, and be CPR/AED certified.

  3. Ability to implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum.
  4. Excellent organizational skills.
  5. Punctual, reliable and able to multi-task.
  6. Ability to be flexible in assignment and work hours required.
