Darien Garden Club
The Darien Garden Club is a friendly organization filled with fun people who enjoy gardening and want to learn more about their hobby. If you are interested in gardening, you are invited to visit us as a guest at any meeting. You will be greeted warmly and made welcome. Guest may attend two meetings prior to becoming a member. Membership is $30 annually.

October 2, 2017 - Laura Christensen Your Home Landscape: From Basic to Breathtaking with Bulbs!
Do you pour over those beautiful bulb catalogs that arrive in your mailbox each spring, but procrastinate about buying some? Do bulbs intimidate you? Bulbs are some of the lowest maintenance, and highest impact plants for your home landscape. Laura will talk about which bulbs are the least susceptible to munching animals, which bulbs live the longest and naturalize, how to plant them, and care for them, and what partner plants to use to help mask the bulbs' foliage as they die back in the late spring. Don't wait any longer to incorporate spring bulbs into your home landscape! This is the year to add some 'Wow' to your landscaping! Laura is an experienced landscape designer and public speaker. She has her bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Wisconsin Madison, her Master's degree in City Planning from Northwestern University and is a 30 year member of The American Society of Landscape Architects. She has had her own landscape design business, Design With Nature, in Wheaton for eight years. Prior to taking time off to raise her three children Laura was the staff landscape architect and a city planner for the Village of Schaumburg, Il. and subsequently a landscape architect and planning consultant for Camiros, Inc. a design consulting firm in Chicago. She is an active member of the Wheaton Garden Club. Laura has been designing and gardening on her own property in Wheaton for 28 years. She greatly enjoys sharing her love of plants and design with others.
November 6 Lynn Pisano, Darien Garden Club member - Propagation
Lynn is a former Master Gardener who left the business world in 1998 to pursue her interest in Horticultural Therapy. She has taken numerous horticulture classes at College of DuPage and horticultural therapy seminars at the Chicago Botanic Garden and HT conferences. Lynn was a contract employee for nine years with the Horticultural Therapy Department of the Chicago Botanic Garden, where she conducted onsite activities at schools, assisted living facilities and VA hospitals. She has volunteered with numerous agencies devoting her time and energy to programs serving children and the elderly as well as physically, emotionally and mentally challenged individuals. Lynn loves to flower arrange and enjoys recycling donated funeral flowers into arrangements for those who need some cheer. She recently presented a propagation workshop to children at Willowbrook Corner, amazing the children with the possibility of propagation. Roll up your sleeves, prepare to get your hands dirty, and share in the amazement of propagation. Anyone who would like to do a propagation project should bring a medium sized pot to the meeting. All other materials will be provided.

February 5, 2018 - Ken Benson - Adding Cactus & Succulents to Your Container Gardens
Succulents have become an increasingly popular among gardeners and plant enthusiasts. Ken Benson's program, "Adding Cactus & Succulents to your Containers", will provide the new ideas and tips for success. This is demonstration on using nontraditional plant material for your summer containers. We have been taught not to mix certain plants. Why? Ken will show us that we can and inspire us to create new interest in our container gardens. Ken has his Masters and Bachelor's in Horticulture from the University of Il Champaign. He is a Landscape Architect and was the Host of Cable TV? Landscaping with Ken Benson 1992-2000. He was a Board member of Chicago Flower and Garden Show 1998- 2008 and a Founding Board Member of MELA- Midwest Ecological Landscapers Association. Ken is a past Member of Men's Garden Club of Villa Park and has been giving programs since 1972 to garden clubs throughout the area.
