Darien Garden Club

The Darien Garden Club is a friendly organization filled with fun people who enjoy gardening and want to learn more about their hobby. If you are interested in gardening, you are invited to visit us as a guest at any meeting. You will be greeted warmly and made welcome. Guest may attend two meetings prior to becoming a member. Membership is $20 annually.

Program at Indian Prairie Library

PROGRAM: ARTISTIC EFFECTS AND GLORIOUS GARDEN
SPEAKER: Laura Mueller

Laura Mueller is both an artist and art historian. She has worked for the Chicago Art Institute in the Department of Museum Education since 1987. Laura through her degree in Painting and Drawing from the School of Art Institute and a Masters in Art from the University of Chicago, she brings a vast knowledge of literature, art history and studio art. Expanding her lecture programs under the Museum, she teaches classes on Sketching emphasizing Composition, Light and Shadow, Color and programs on the influences of gardening in world of Art. Through her presentation "Artistic Effects and Glorious Gardens", Laura, will help us look at famous painters including Monet, Peter Paul Rubens, Emil Nolde, Van Gogh and Gustave Caillebotte to see how these artists reflected the gardening style of their times, garden design, color harmonies and their own personalities in their art.

"Floral Design Symposium"

Kathi Rose has a Degree in Horticulture from the University of Illinois and is a Certified Landscape Architect. As the owner of Kaleidoscope of Floral Design for the past 22 years, she is also gifted in floral technique and design. Being well-versed on any topic regarding landscape and floral design, Kathi has taught several subjects for GCI's Landscape Design School and has given floral presentations for many garden clubs. She loves to teach and her enthusiastic presentations are fun and educational.

Floral Design Symposium
Kathi will present various floral design styles with tips, techniques and direction. The styles presented are for use in a home, for entertaining or to enter into a flower show. While working on her design demonstrations, she welcomes all questions throughout her presentation. Upon the conclusion of her program, a couple of floral designs designed during her program will be raffled off. Join us to not only learn about using flowers from your own garden to produce beautiful arrangements, but you may also become one of the lucky winners of one of Kathi's floral creations!

PROGRAM: NATURE PRINTING WORKSHOP
SPEAKER: Joanne Laudolff

For our August speaker program, dress for some messy creativity for this hands on take home project. The cost will be $5.00 per person to be paid in cash or by check. Debbie Pasquesi and Sue Farley will be collecting the $5.00 starting at the July meeting.

Joanne Laudolff has a deep background in art and nature. Through her degrees in Photography and Art, her work experiences and further art classes, she has taken her love of nature to new creative ways. In this hands-on Nature Printing Workshop, Joanne will teach, demonstrate and then encourage us to make our own Botanical print.

Joanne will go into depth on the history and process in making botanical prints. She will distribute cardstock, inks and various plant materials for us to make our own print. Joanne will be available to offer individual instructions, ideas and guidance.

Come prepared to be creative and adventuresome in making your own special print!
